The Miles for Military Model .

Why We Require Volunteering

Volunteering is the foundation of our mission.

We believe that when junior enlisted service members invest in the communities where they’re stationed, everyone benefits. Through volunteer service, military members build friendships, develop local support networks, and strengthen the connection between the military and the communities they serve. Those relationships foster a greater sense of purpose and belonging while helping reduce the isolation that can come with serving far from home.

When it’s time to travel, those same volunteers return home to reconnect with the family and loved ones who help sustain them. The result is a cycle of service, connection, and resilience that strengthens service members, military families, and communities alike.

Every volunteer project strengthens a community. Every flight strengthens a family.

Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM)

Volunteer service can also provide lasting personal and professional benefits. In addition to developing leadership skills, teamwork, and community connections, your volunteer experience may contribute toward recognition such as the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM). While eligibility and approval vary by branch of service and your chain of command, maintaining a record of your volunteer service can support future award nominations, performance reports, resumes, scholarship applications, and other career opportunities.
